Welcome to the University SCUBA Club at UT Austin! The Club is open for membership to all University of Texas at Austin students, staff and faculty, and we welcome everyone to our dives and other events. If you're in the Austin area and you're interested in learning an exciting sport, exploring the underwater world, and learning to safely enjoy SCUBA diving then this is the place for you. If you're new to SCUBA diving or a seasoned veteran of the sport the University SCUBA Club would love to have you join us. Stop by the next meeting for more information.
Rebreather Demo, Feb 26
So we were contacted recently by a UT alum. working for Titan Dive Gear. They're going to be out here at the end of the month for the
Texas Dive Show and have offered to let us try out their equipment. I love rebreathers so I'm very excited about this. We're meeting at Oak Hill SCUBA at noon for a brief presentation then heading to West Austin Athletic Club to use the pool there. Let me know if you're interested in participating. It's free.
Diving Lake Travis, Feb 19
We're going to Lake Travis on Sunday, Feb 19. We should be able to do three dives and it will still be a bit cold so you'll want at least a 5mm suit. We're panning on renting a pontoon boat if we have enough people so let us if you're interested ASAP.
First Meeting of the Spring Semester
A new semester has begun and spring is upon us! Yeah, for all practical purposes it's already spring. I mean it's 70 outside. I'm thinking we can start diving again very soon. Anyways, the first meeting of the semester is this Thursday at 7:00PM in SAC 3.112. We're going to say hello to all the new people and plan out the next few months: classes, dives, trips, etc. We'll have free food. You should come.
Comal River Dive, Nov 27
We're doing a afternoon/night dive at Comal River in New Braunfels the Sunday after Thanksgiving. This will be our last dive of the year so don't miss it.
Search/Rescue Dog Training, Nov 5/6
Search/rescue dog training was a lot of fun and we're doing it again! The diving/training will be both Saturday and Sunday, Nov 5/6, all day. As before, there will be free lunch and you get to spend the day diving and playing with dogs. What more do you want out of life? If you're interested in diving either or both of those days (or even half of a day) you need to email Karen Shaffer, the trainer who's running the show. University SCUBA Club is not in charge of this event. You'll want to sign up quickly because they only need 7 people per day and it's open to everyone, not just us. You can contact Karen at
karenshaffer@hotmail.com or 417-9165.
We hope to see you there.
